World Museum Day 2009

In the matter of celebrating World Museum Day, the ICOM or the International Council of Museums clearly mentions that, "It has been recommended that this celebration be held each year on 18 May (Given that each country has its own specific traditions and conditions, we recommend that members organise their events around 18 May), in the spirit of the motto: Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, co-operation and peace among peoples. The Sabarna Sangrahashala, upon the advice and suggestions of Sri Naresh Bandhopadhyay, the chief advisor and patron, the other members of the the Advisory Board and all the members of the Governing Body, have uninamously decided to celebrate World Museum Day on February 8th comemorating the inauguration of Gurusaday Museum on the same day in 1963 Prof. Humayun Kabir, the then Union Minister of Education, Govt. of India . The decision to celebrate World Museum Day on February 8th is strictly according to our own conditions and by no way fall apart from the spirit of the motto as laid down by ICOM.
